A third of the 150,000 international students attending Australian universities each February – most of whom are Chinese – have returned following the pandemic.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has told universities not to copy foreign institutions, with some intending to withdraw from overseas university rankings – as China’s universities have a standard of their own.
Australian Astrophysicist at The University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Roberto Soria, says this is to create a “detachment of Chinese science, Chinese culture, Chine academy, from the rest of the world”.
“He wants an independent knowledge system because he points out that the Chinese knowledge system’s older, it’s the oldest in the world,” Professor Soria told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.
