A post in the Winaukee 100 Facebook group – set up to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Camp Winaukee – announced the death of Ned Dubofsky, age 54, on Thursday, February 9, 2023, and bids him “rest in peace.“
Another calls him a “beautiful soul” and adds, “may you shine your beautiful light down to the hearts of all who adore you.”
Ned is survived by his wife Lindsay, and their daughter Casey Dubofsky. An obituary posted by the New York Times on the Legacy website sends love to family members Lindsay, Casey, Charlie Betsy and Nancy, as well as to “the entire Dubofsky family.”
RIP Ned Dubofsky: Death announced by fellow Winaukee alum
“Rest in peace,” reads Mario Watson’s post in the Winaukee 100 Facebook group. “Heartbroken over this news.”
Camp Winaukee is an annual sportsmanship and community camp for boys age seven to 15. It takes place on Lake Winnipesaukee – hence the name – in New Hampshire.
The post has since picked up several dozen reactions, and comments describing the news as “very sad” and “a tragedy.”
“Saddened to hear about passing of Ned,” one writes. “So, so many fond memories and laughs.” The Facebook user, apparently a camp leader rather than one of Dubofsky’s peers, says they would “get him so mad when we told him he could not ski” – only to let him ski and look forward to “do the same routine” the next day.
He attended the camp in the 1980s
One user has asked another if Ned Dubofsky was at Camp Winaukee in 1984 or 1985, which stacks up against his age. 54 when he passed, Dubofsky was born in the late 1960s. He might’ve been 15 for the camp in either 1984 or 1985.
“Will miss you Ned,” writes another user. A third has shared a photograph purportedly of Dubofsky while at Camp Winaukee as a youngster.
“Thank you for sharing,” writes another. “So many memories shared with Ned.”
A separate post in the form of a Facebook Reel contains the hashtags, “#oldfriendsarethebestfriends” and “#sweetsoul.”
His wife Lindsay and daughter Casey survive him
Ned Evan Dubofsky married Lindsay Alyson Marks on January 22, 2005. They recently celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary.
His wife is seven years his junior. At the time of their marriage, she worked in New York as the coordinator of public relations and marketing for Ralph Lauren Home.
He ran an insurance brokerage in Jericho, New York. Dubofsky went to George Washington University. His marriage to Lindsay Marks was his second; his first ended in divorce.
Their daughter Casey, age either 16 or 17 at time of publication, is the driving force behind nonprofit Safe Eats. She is severely allergic to tree nuts and fish. The organization aims to recruit restaurants from across Nassau County to opt into a program that trains staff members in using EpiPens.
