When does Lent begin and end in 2022?
Lent in 2022 begins on Wednesday, March 2, also called Ash Wednesday, and will end on Thursday, April 14.
The observance is 40 days long but does not include Sundays, thus making it 36 days.
Father William Saunders of the Catholic Education Resource Center has explained the significance of Lent being 40 days.
He said: “The number 40 has always had special spiritual significance regarding preparation … most importantly, Jesus fasted and prayed for 40 days and 40 nights in the desert before He began His public ministry (Matthew 4:2).”

Practice of giving up something for Lent explained
People usually decide to give up a habit, food or hobby they love for Lent and that way, its absence for 40 days becomes extremely noticeable.
The yearning for what you give up becomes a reminder to turn to God and recognize how he meets all needs.
Giving up things for Lent is not a compulsory practice across all Christian faiths.
Usually, the practice of giving up things goes hand in hand with picking up a spiritual discipline to replace it.

Things to give up for Lent 2022
Here are a few ideas about things you can decide to give up for Lent this year.
Gossiping and complaining
Both these habits are extremely detrimental to an individual’s personal growth. They also cause us to spiral into a pattern of negative thinking that can affect our mental, spiritual and even financial growth in life.
Gossiping and Complaining only ever hurts the doer.
Screen Time and Social media
Give up stalking the Kardashians or other influencers you follow for 40 days and refresh your perspective of looking at your own life.
Social media often dulls our minds and leaves us feeling inadequate. Instagram has a mysterious way of flooding our minds with superficial thoughts while life is meant to be lived and experienced deeply.
Alcohol
If you are a daily or even weekly alcohol consumer, giving it up for 40 days can do wonders to both your mental and physical health.
Moreover, cutting out wine and hard liquor can save you a ton of money, which you can then invest into your health.
Hot Showers
Nothing makes you remember the lord like the lack of hot showers. It can bring a great amount of discomfort to those who depend on them.
Those who depend on hot showers will be filled with gratitude after bathing under cold water for 40 days.
Moreover, Cold Showers have a variety of other health benefits including improved blood circulation.
