GoFundMe for Rylee McCollum’s child raises $20k in two hours

On Thursday, August 26th 2021, 13 US Service Members were killed in a suicide bombing around Kabul airport in Afghanistan. Twenty-year-old Rylee McCollum died in the bombing which also killed hundreds of Afghans and even more injured.

Now, a GoFundMe page has been set up for Rylee McCollum’s child. In just two hours, $20k was raised for the marine’s family, so let’s take a look at the GoFundMe page – how to donate and more…

Who was Rylee McCollum?

Rylee McCollum was a 20-year-old marine who came from Riverton, Wyoming.

He was born on February 26th 2001 and was a baby when 9/11 happened.

Rylee married his wife, Jiennah ‘GiGi’ Crayton in February 2021. Together they were expecting a baby in the next month.

His parents, Kathy and Jim, both described their sadness as marines arrived at their houses to tell them the devastating news that their son had died.

GoFundMe for Rylee McCollum’s child

A GoFundMe page was created on August 27th 2021, titled ‘Rylee McCollum’s Child Education Fund’.

The page’s description begins: “This is a fund specifically dedicated to the education and upbringing of Marine Rylee McCollum’s child who is expected for September. His sacrifice at HKIA to protect the lives of those who cannot themselves will not be forgotten.”

The page organiser added: “We are currently in direct contact with the wife of Rylee McCollum, GiGi, who gave us the go-ahead to host the GoFundMe.”

$20k raised in two hours for Rylee’s child

The organisers of the GoFundMe added a note on August 28th which stated: “We would like to note that our community contributed over $20,000 within two hours. You are all incredible.“

At the time of writing, the GoFundMe, which aimed to raise $5,000, had reached $95,263.
