La Crosse, Wis. (WXOW) – Festivals, sporting events and concerts are all back but health experts warn Americans not to let their guard down in the battle with COVID-19.
As Americans get back out after more than a year in lockdown mode, the Centers for Disease control and local healthcare experts remind us not to leave the mask at home.
According to the C.D.C., masks should still be work at indoor events and while in a large crowd even if outdoors.
While Coulee Region residents will be heading out to area autum parades like the Maple Leaf Parade, Dr. Michael Bassett, a second year family medicine resident at Mayo Clinic is La Crosse says all three can still be prime areas for the spread of the coronavirus.
“Even though it is outdoors, people are going to be shoulder to shoulder, talking, singing and shouting. That’s how the droplets are transmitted,” Basset said.
“Wearing a mask will help prevent spreading the virus and offers some protection from receiving it,” Bassett said.
He adds that while those who have been vaccinated may think they are safe, no vaccination can offer 100-percent protection from a particular virus so it is important to continue to wear a mask, physically distance when possible and wash hands often.
