AI expand trend takes over TikTok
The viral filter uses clever artificial intelligence technology to extend each edge of your photo and add a fake background.
You upload a series of images and the effect does the rest for you, letting you see more of the picture that doesn’t actually exist.
It’s really cool to see what the AI tool adds, and it can sometimes be a little creepy with random people and objects in your photos.
How to do the AI Expand Filter
The filter is on an app called CapCut, so you’ll have to download that for free on the App Store. Then, follow these steps:
- Open TikTok and tap ‘Home’ in the bottom bar
- Click on the magnifying glass and search ‘AI Expand Filter’
- Click on someone’s video
- Above their username, it will say ‘CapCut | Try AI Expand Template’
- Click on this box and press ‘Use template in CapCut’
Upload six images to CapCut
Once you’ve been redirected to CapCut, you’ll need to click ‘Use Filter’ and will then be prompted to upload six images.
Choose the pictures you want to expand and then press ‘Preview’. You’ll now have to wait while the effect loads.
Now, your photos will be expanded. You can press and hold each individual clip at the bottom to change the order.
Tap ‘Add sound in TikTok’ in the blue box and the video will automatically be exported to your TikTok account.
