Derrick Lewis is fighting Curtis Blaydes this weekend on UFC Vegas 15. Lewis is currently on a three-fight win streak and will look to make it four. Ahead of his fight, the heavyweight contender faced the media and was asked about his upcoming fight and many other related topics.

“The Black Beast” had expressed his desire to cut some weight before his fights. He believed it will increase his endurance and stamina inside the octagon. So, naturally, the media asked him about his shape and what weight he plans to be at for his fight against Blaydes.

Lewis though, known for his on-mic antics, revealed that he might not even be able to make the heavyweight limit of 265lbs. He let slip that he might miss weight 10-15lbs against Blaydes.

He said, “Actually, I probably gonna miss weight. That’s what I am looking for. That’s what I am looking forward to the most. I’m probably gonna be like 10lbs heavy. So, we just trying to get through this week really and trying to make weight. But, that’s a lady in here that she been walking around in every room and eating all in my face. She’s eating a sandwich, smoothie. So I don’t even think I’d try to make 265 anymore. So her fault.” said Lewis.

He has been known for his love of food always, but whether this response was serious or yet another of his gems is still up for debate. ‘The Black Beast’ added, “Oh yes! yes! You gotta smell the food that she was eating. I don’t even wanna cut weight. It’s delicious.”

Derrick Lewis on Jones’s chance at the heavyweight

When asked about Jon Jones’ decision to move up to heavyweight, Lewis said, “I don’t care. If that’s what he wanna do with his career or his life, it’s fine. I am not the gatekeeper. So I don’t care what he does.”

When asked about him potentially fighting the former 205lbs king, Lewis replied, “It doesn’t matter. I don’t have nothing to guess. If the UFC comes to me with a contract and it looks good, then yeah. I’ll fight him. I don’t have no animosity against the guy.”

The former heavyweight title challenger was then asked about his thoughts on how Jones would fare at heavyweight. The Louisiana native told, “I believe Jones will do great at heavyweight. He walks around heavy as already. I think he’ll do good.”

He said that this was due to the fact that ‘Bones’ ruled as a champion at light-heavyweight and walked around at heavyweight throughout his decade-long run at 205 lbs.

Lewis vs Blaydes is a very important clash in the landscape of the heavyweight division. The winner can potentially challenge for the title in their next bout. Francis Ngannou is set to face Stipe Miocic for the belt. Lewis and Blaydes are certainly the front runners to face the eventual winners of that title bout.

Who do you think gets the win? Lewis or Blaydes? Let us know your thoughts below.
