Judd Trump faces a fight for survival in the World Snooker Championship in a tight quarter-final with Jak Jones this morning. The world No 2 finished Tuesday’s play level with the Welshman at 8-8, and it promises to be a compelling battle as they race to 13 frames.
On the other side of the arena, John Higgins and Kryen Wilson resume their high-scoring contest. The consequences of Higgins’ draining win over Mark Allen on Monday night appeared to be on display in the quarter-finals as Wilson swept the first half of the opening session 4-0 yesterday, but Higgins responded with two strong century breaks and heads into the morning’s play only trailing 5-3.
This afternoon and evening, Ronnie O’Sullivan will return to the arena to finish his match with Stuart Bingham after they ended the first session all square at 4-4. And in the other quarter-final, David Gilbert took a commanding 10-6 over Stephen Maguire ahead of their final session today.

Judd Trump 9-10 Jak Jones (best of 25)
Trump pots a good red and then plays a brilliant safety, leaving the cue ball pinned against the baulk cushion. It pays off as Jones fails to get the white safe, and Trump rolls in a delicate red to the right middle.
Advantage Trump, but then, wow – he misses the most straightforward of pinks! These are truly once-a-season misses, and he’s made three or four of them this morning. His pot success rate is 78% today, which is drastically down from his typical 90% levels.

John Higgins 4-6 Kyren Wilson
On the other side of the arena, Kyren Wilson wins the 10th frame to extend his advantage to two frames once more.

Judd Trump 9-10 Jak Jones (best of 25)
Trump errs again, this time trying an ambitious double which doesn’t go close, and which leaves his opponent a straightforward pot into the middle right pocket.

Judd Trump 9-10 Jak Jones (best of 25)
For evidence of just how shaky Trump is this morning, this latest missed red shows it, as he misses by a long way and sits back down looking befuddled. Fortunately for Trump, he doesn’t leave anything on.
The world No 2 is nowhere near his best right now and he’s going to have to scrap for every point if he’s to make the semi-finals.

Jones wins 19th frame! Judd Trump 9-10 Jak Jones (best of 25)
Jones breaks down just short of a century, but a break of 87 is enough to wrap up the frame and he leads the match once more.

Judd Trump 9-9 Jak Jones (best of 25)
Jones gets the first look at this 19th frame after Trump missed a red that was never really on, but which he tried to force an angle for.
The Welshman quickly puts 50 points on the board and counting…

Trump wins 18th frame! Judd Trump 9-9 Jak Jones (best of 25)
As Jones closes is on the frame, he fires in the pink but screws the cue ball back into the middle pocket! Goodness me, what a mistake. He offers up a wry smile but must be furious with himself.
Trump comes to the table just needing the baulk colours, and he puts them away to somehow escape with the frame. They’re all square again.

John Higgins 4-5 Kyren Wilson
On the other side of the screen, John Higgins won a marathon opening frame of the day to move to within one of Kyren Wilson, after Wilson had led 4-0 yesterday.

Trump 8-9 Jones (best of 25)
Oh dear, Trump loses control of the cue ball and the break ends far too soon – he’s just found no rhythm whatsoever this morning.
Jones is back at the table with what must feel like a free roll. He’s 30 points behind but if he can pull off a frame-clinching break, it would be a huge moment in this match.
The final few reds are awkwardly laid out in a cluster by the left corner pocket and this will take some plotting.

Trump 8-9 Jones (best of 25)
Trump pots a red and rolls the cue ball up against the green, leaving Jones horribly snookered. The Welshman opts tries to find the reds via the side cushion nearest the green, but hits the pink.
Trump pots a very thin red that was left on, and now he’s got a real chance to score heavily.
