A police officer has denied causing the death of an 83-year-old pedestrian by careless driving.
PC Daniel Bowen, 28, was driving a marked Mercedes Sprinter police van when he allegedly struck Peter Dawes.
I happened as he crossed the road in East Ham, east London, on July 15.
Tragically Mr Dawes died from his injuries in hospital weeks later on 3 August.

Dressed in a grey suit and tie, PC Bowen appeared at the Old Bailey today (Tue) and spoke to confirm his name and date of birth.
The officer, based at Stratford police station, denied a single charge of causing death by careless driving.
Karen Robinson, prosecuting, said: ‘That plea was anticipated and discussed between the parties.’

Ms Robinson said there was ‘some volume’ of medical evidence to be served to the court due to the amount of time Mr Dawes spent in hospital.
Mr Justice Wall told the Met Police officer: ‘Your trial will now begin on 13 December, you’ll learn the venue where it is to be tried in due course, you are on unconditional bail.’
PC Bowen, of Hornchurch, east London, was granted unconditional bail ahead of his trial on 13 December at a venue yet to be set.
