You may have heard of the dating term ‘Cuffing’ season which urges singletons to get coupled up for Christmas.
But this year, ‘Nuffing’ season is upon us.
So, what is it you ask?
Well, according to dating company Badoo, ‘Nuffing’ is the new trend that singletons are embracing this winter season.
Today is National Singles Day after all, so what better way to celebrate than talking about being single, and not wanting to mingle.
Having coined the new phrase, Badoo has claimed that ‘Nuffing’ is all about ‘zero-pressure dating’.
After conducting research with some singletons, Badoo found “that this winter, 75% of singles would in fact prefer to continue dating as normal and see how things go, without the pressure of getting into a relationship”.
However, although an overwhelming majority of single people would prefer to stay alone they often feel a lot of pressure from family and friends to get into a relationship.
Staggeringly, over half (52%) of singles claim they are most pressured to date during the Christmas period.
Out of this group, 47% singletons say they feel the pressure to couple up mainly from friends and family.
While nearly half (46%) do not like being alone over the festive period, with 44% claiming that this is due to all of their friends getting in relationships.
So ‘Nuffing’ is a defiant response to Cuffing season.
Natasha Briefel, Brand Marketing Director at Badoo, said: “At Badoo, we’re all about zero-pressure dating. Ultimately, we believe you should be honest with how you feel and what you’re looking for in a potential partner.
“Cuffing Season can be problematic because, as our findings reveal, single people feel immense pressure to get into a relationship, and are even willing to settle as a result.”
