Movie buffs were elated when news broke that multiplexes would be offering tickets for just Rs. 99 on April 19, as part of the Cinema Lovers Day festivities. This announcement sparked excitement among cinema enthusiasts, with multiplex chains and the makers of Do Aur Do Pyaar promoting the offer with creative advertisements.
Unfortunately, multiplexes have decided to retract the offer. According to Bollywood Hungama, the cancellation is attributed to the scheduling clash with phase 1 of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
Why Is Cinema Lovers Day Cancelled Due To Lok Sabha Elections?
There’s apprehension that the allure of discounted movie tickets might deter citizens from exercising their right to vote.
Additionally, concerns arose from some theatres regarding the operational challenges posed by the elections. As per local laws and regulations, certain theatres would be compelled to remain closed for half a day during the polling process. This limitation would prevent moviegoers from fully enjoying the discounted tickets.
Consequently, a collective decision was made to withdraw the offer, with plans to reschedule the event at a later date, taking the electoral schedule into consideration.
Expressing disappointment, a multiplex manager lamented the sudden withdrawal, stating that they had promptly updated their ticketing systems to reflect the normal Friday rates. However, he assured patrons who had already purchased tickets at the discounted price that they would be honoured without any additional charges.
Lok Sabha Elections 2024 And Movie Releases On April 19
On April 19, citizens across 102 constituencies are slated to cast their votes. Notable districts participating in the electoral process include Gaya (Bihar), Bastar (Chhattisgarh), Nagpur (Maharashtra), Inner and Outer Manipur, Puducherry, Jaipur (Rajasthan), Chennai (Tamil Nadu), and Pilibhit (Uttar Pradesh).
Despite the setback, tomorrow’s cinematic lineup remains promising, featuring new releases such as Dibakar Banerjee’s daring thriller Love Sex Aur Dhokha 2, the star-studded romcom Do Aur Do Pyaar starring Vidya Balan, Pratik Gandhi, Ileana D’Cruz, and Sendhil Ramamurthy, the semi-animated Luv You Shankar, and the Hollywood dystopian thriller Civil War, all to be screened at regular ticket prices.
