Paul Gallen will face former NRL star Darcy Lussick on December 22 after his original opponent Josh Aloiai was forced to withdraw from next Friday’s fight after contracting Covid last week.
Numerous fighters threw their hat in the ring to replace him, but Lussick was seen as the most lucrative option at this late stage.
Lussick has only had one professional fight in his career, knocking out Justin Hodges in 39 seconds, with the bout set to be confirmed at a press conference at 11am on Monday morning.
Gallen has previously dismissed the idea of facing the former Manly and Parramatta prop back in 2020, saying he had “bigger fish to fry” before Lussick gets a chance.

“I’ve got bigger fish to fry and a few bigger names to worry about before Darcy Lussick jumps in the ring with me,” Gallen said on WWOS radio.
“But if it is to happen, Darcy said it would be easy money.
“I’m sure this message will get to Darcy – I’m willing to bet Darcy’s purse on it that he won’t beat me.
“So whatever he’s getting paid for the fight, if he beats me, I will pay it again. If I beat him – which will happen – I’ll be getting the entire purse.”
Gallen has not been in the ring since losing the only fight of his career to date, against Australian heavyweight Justis Huni.
