ECONOMYEXT – Sri Lankaâ€s tea production fell 8 percent to 21.15 million kilograms in October, data showed, while exports were up 14 percent to 20 million kilograms.
In the 10 months to October production was 217.65 up 0.5 percent to 216.49 million, Ceylon Tea Brokers said citing Sri Lanka Tea Board data.
Exports were up 1.7 percent in the 10 months to 203 million kilograms.
Export earnings in October 2024 were 126 million up 32.6 percent from 95 million in 2023.
Earnings in the first 10 months were 1.1 billion dollars, against 1 billion last year.
Production
In October 2024 low growns were 12.4 million, down from 13.8 million in October 2023.
Medium growns were 2.8 million, down from 3.2 million.
High growns were 3.6 million, down from 3.7 million.
Green tea was 179 million, down from 203 million.
CTC was 2 million up from 1.8 million.
Exports
In October bulk tea was up at 8.8 million, from 7.6 million last year.
Packeted teas were up at 8.7 million from 8.2 million.
Instant teas were up at 297,460 from 35,829.
