Bob Saget has passed away at 65
Bob Saget, who gained popularity for his role as Danny Tanner on the sitcom Full House, has passed away. He was 65 years old.
As per reports, he was found dead at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Orlando, Florida on Sunday (January 9th) after hotel staff found him unresponsive.
“We are devastated to confirm that our beloved Bob passed away today,” his family said in a statement.
“He was everything to us and we want you to know how much he loved his fans, performing live and bringing people from all walks of life together with laughter.”
Known as ‘America’s Dad’, Bob was the original presenter of America’s Funniest Home Videos and had a career as an actor, stand-up comedian and television host that spanned for over 30 years.
Emotional tributes have poured in following the devastating news about the actor’s death.
“Bob was the most loving, compassionate and generous man. We are deeply saddened that he is no longer with us but know that he will continue to be by our side to guide us as gracefully as he always has,” Full House co-stars Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen said in a statement obtained by People.
“We are thinking of his daughters, wife and family and are sending our condolences.”
Thor and WandaVision star Kat Dennings wrote: “I just can’t believe it. What a wonderful guy. He always went out of his way to make me comfortable and talked nonstop about his kids. Such a loss.”
Bob raised awareness about Scleroderma
Bob’s sister Gay Saget was 47 years old when she passed away of Scleroderma.
In a 2019 interview with NIH Medline Plus Magazine, he said that he was asked to work with the Scleroderma Research Foundation before his sister got diagnosed.
“I got a call from someone I did not know asking me to host a comedy fundraiser for a disease I knew very little about,” he explained. “I said yes and hosted the event, which starred Ellen DeGeneres, Rosie O’Donnell and others. Little did I know that just a few years later, my sister would be diagnosed with the disease.”
In the same interview, he said that Gay was a school teacher in Philadelphia and that she was diagnosed with the illness at the age of 44.
After her diagnosis, she moved to Los Angeles to live with her parents and passed away two years after that.
According to the Mayo Clinic, scleroderma is “a group of rare diseases that involve the hardening and tightening of the skin and connective tissues” which is found among people between 30 and 50 years old.
Bob shared a picture with his sister and their grandmother in 2020, followed by an emotional tribute to Gay who would have been 73 at the time.
“My sister Gay would’ve been 73 yesterday,” he wrote on January 10th 2020. “She died when she was 47 from scleroderma, a disease that I’m part of finding the cure, as a proud board member of the #SclerodermaResearchFoundation – My heart goes out to everyone who has lost someone dear to them.”
RIP Bob Saget. Our thoughts and prayers are with the actor’s family and friends during this difficult time.
