We recently bought a home. We’ve been in it all of 3 weeks. The seller disclosed no known flooding or issues with water seepage in the basement. Our home inspection turned up an 1/8” crack in the unfinished portion. We were advised this wasn’t a structural issue. Recently, I discovered efflorescence along the unfinished floor where the wall meets the floor. I contacted a contractor to come out this week. We were discussing installing a sump pump and if necessary wall anchors for the unfinished portion where the crack is.
Tonight, I pulled back the new clean carpet with no mold or visible water damage in the finished portion of the basement just to take a look before I have an expert out here and there’s clean underlayment and clean tape on top of moldy tack boards. It’s obviously flooded before and shows signs of water damage under the rug. I don’t want to sound paranoid or accusatory but it seems strange that the mold would just be under a new clean underlayment and new clean carpet. It’s like they just laid new carpet over the damage. The MLS listings from when they bought the house showed different carpet. There’s even a piece of the old moldy pad left on the floor under this.
