Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is being praised for his alleged involvement in the release of eight former Indian Navy officers who were detained in Qatar on charges of espionage.
Subramaniam Swamy claims SRK helped Modi free Naval officers
According to BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, PM Narendra Modi sought Khan’s help after failing to persuade the Qatari authorities through diplomatic channels. Swamy claimed that Khan intervened and got an expensive settlement from the Qatari sheikhs to free the Indian nationals.
However, the Ministry of External Affairs has not confirmed Swamy’s claim and has only expressed appreciation for the decision by the Amir of Qatar to enable the release and homecoming of the Indian nationals. The Qatari court had earlier commuted the death sentence of the jailed Indian Navy veterans to an extended prison term after diplomatic talks between Qatar and India.

Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan was recently clicked in Doha. The actor was there to attend the AFC final and a watch and jewelery exhibition. SRK was also seen shaking hands with the Qatari Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.

Shah Rukh Khan, who is known for his patriotic roles in films like Chak De! India and Swades, has not commented on the matter yet. His fans have hailed him as a hero and a savior of the nation.
