The Those About to Die release date is Thursday, July 18, 2024.
All episodes of Season 1 will debut on the same day on Peacock. Roland Emmerich, known for films such as Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow, directed episodes of the first season along with Marco Kreuzpaintner (The Collini Case). The sword-and-sandal epic drama series will feature multiple languages, including English, Italian, and German.

Plot – what’s the story about?
Set in Ancient Rome, Those About to Die tells the story of the brutal, corrupted, and complicated world of gladiatorial sports.
The series is a dramatized exploration of the importance gladiatorial sports had on life in ancient Rome. The title is a reference to the Latin phrase “Ave Imperator, morituri te salutant,” (Hail, Emperor, those who are about to die salute you). The series also promises that it will not exclusively focus on the gladiators but on individuals from various tiers of society.
