Three people were injured in the stabbing at Amman Valley School in Carmarthenshire, at around 11.15am on Wednesday.
Two air ambulances were sent to Amman Valley School, also known as Ysgol Dyffryn Aman, in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire, and worried parents rushed to the scene.
One air ambulance then headed to University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.
The three wounded were receiving treatment, Dyfed-Powys Police said.
“One person has been arrested and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident,” the force said.
“Emergency services remain at scene and the school has been closed while investigations continue.”
Parents waited for several hours at the gates of the school, which was “in lockdown”, before tearfully being reunited with their children as the school day ended.

Teachers chased girl running around with knife, says pupil
A pupil at the school has described how he saw a girl “running around with a knife in her hand and teachers chasing her, trying to hold her back from people”.
Osian George, 15, said after his first two lessons and break, he was told to go back to his class where he and others would be locked in.
“It was all so chaotic at the time that everyone was just running around screaming trying to get away from what was happening. It was just something that’s very scary for all of us.
“A lot of us didn’t even know what actually happened. But it was something that was very scary.”
He said he was relieved not to have been injured, and that during the afternoon he and fellow pupils were in such shock that they couldn’t focus on learning, but that the teachers were understanding.
“I hope that they are okay and then they [the injured] are not in critical condition. I just can’t believe it’s all happened.”

Forensics experts at work in school
There’s an eerie feel outside Amman Valley School after a teacher and pupils were injured in a reportedly knife attack earlier today, writes Alex Ross.
The incident happened while children were outside at lunch, and they were quickly rushed inside and placed under lockdown as emergency services arrived.
At 3.10pm, waiting parents outside were reunited with their children, and by 4pm all parents and pupils were gone from the black gated entrance to the school.
Now, a group of journalists remain while police officers, including forensic experts, work inside an area cordoned off by police tape at the school.

Teacher wounded, says local man
Sion, 25, who has friends with children at the school, said he was alerted to the incident first by the sound of a helicopter, then posts on social media.
“I got down here because some of my mates with children here couldn’t, and I wanted to show my support and pass any information on,” he told The Independent.
“Children were kept in lockdown at the school following the incident until 3.10pm, when they left at normal time.”
He said he believed the incident involved pupils in Years 9-10, and that a teacher was hurt.
He said: “You never want to hear anything like this happening, especially in a small town like here where nothing happens, and definitively not in a school. I just hope everyone is OK.”
