What did Bryson DeChambeau say to Patrick Cantlay?
Bryson had asked Patrick to stop walking. During the final round, Bryson had been waiting to make a good aim. However, it seems like he was a bit distracted.
Due to this, he decided to take matters into his own hand and was heard saying: “Patrick, can you stop walking?” Once Patrick did, Bryson looked like he could focus again and aimed for his final shot. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as it fell too short.
However, Patrick managed to sweep the win as he went on to birdie the hole.
Twitter reacts to the incident
Social media users were quick to react to the event. Some thought that Bryson’s actions were justified.
One user wrote: “I think it is OK to ask Cantlay to stop walking because that movement may have been in DeChambeau’s peripheral vision and that could be a distraction. Let the players play without making a big deal out of every little event that occurs.”
Another added: “If Cantlay was in view and was walking while DeChambeau was over the ball, he shouldn’t have. Bryson can take lots and lots of time over the ball, however. That’s an issue as well.”
Meanwhile, there were others who thought he was wrong as one comment read: “Dechambeau tells Cantlay to stop walking. Big mistake.” Another added: “Patrick Cantlay should have asked Bryson DeChambeau to stop walking during his victory speech.”
Patrick Cantlay takes home the win
At the end of the day, Patrick was revealed to be the winner. Speaking about his victory, he said: “I felt like I tried to stay in my own little world,” Cantlay said. “I’m just as focused as I can be. If I look the way I do, it’s because I am locked in and focused, and I felt like that today. My game feels really good. It has for a while now, since Memorial, and I’m finally starting to putt like me again.”
At present, Patrick is enjoying his win while paying no attention to what happened on the golf course.
