Controversial post about “dirty mask” explored
On August 5, Bethany posted two images of a disposal mask containing yellow stains, which makes it look like it’s contaminated. She captioned her post, “This mask is like this after one day.”
In the following tweet, she wrote, “This is one day of use on a small child.”
The latest post came after her previous tweet about parents “scaring” children into wearing masks and people were quick to judge Bethany for letting her children wear such dirty masks. Meanwhile, the majority of them argued that it’s impossible for so much dirt to settle in a mask over a period of few hours.
Soon, reactions flooded Bethany’s Twitter post as people criticized her for her opinion of children wearing masks.
One tweeted, “For several months last year, I worked at Amazon as a temp – 4-10 hour shifts per week, some strenuous labor – a lot of walking and lifting, I had to wear a mask the entire time except when eating on break. My mask never looked like that. Neither did anyone else’s.”
Another tweeted, “If that’s your kids mask, please take them to a doctor because that’s not normal. knowing you, it’s just a stunt you’ve done for clicks. No one’s masks look like this after one day. Nurses had to wear the same masks until they disintegrated, and ours didn’t look like that.”
Slamming her for spreading “misinformation”, one wrote, “What the hell are you eating / drinking / hacking all day that your mask looks like this? I just wore this mask for about 12 hours a day for two days straight. Either you’re absolutely disgusting or you’re spreading misinformation. Which is it?”
A few users support the stay-at-home mother
Even though Bethany is being subject to severe criticism for calling out parents who ensure their children always have their masks on, a few mothers have extended their support to the writer.
Replying to Bethany’s post one tweeted, “Bethany @bethanyshondark & many of our other Twitter friends, who are mothers, have been at the forefront of bringing to light the real-world experiences/impacts re masks on small children, since the Spring of 2020. It’s interesting that she’s a target today, in August 2021.”
Another tweeted, “Holy s**t are @bethanyshondark’s haters angry in my responses. A bunch of bitter malcontents whose only child is their cat but they still have strong opinions on raising kids nevertheless.”
Bethany seems to be unaffected by the criticism as she’s seen responding to trolls while holding her ground.
