Woolworths has revealed that one product is expected to fly off the shelves this Christmas.
Cheese is looking like one of the most popular products to buy for Christmas Day at Woolworths this year.
According to the major retailer’s expected sales data, more than 435,000 kilos of brie and camembert is anticipated to be purchased this year.
With a 30 per cent increase in sales from 2020, the supermarket is predicting it would be its biggest ever Christmas for cheese.
Woolworths’ exclusive Thomas Dux Cheese brand is also expected to sell 740,000 units this festive season.
NSW residents are predicted to buy the most brie and camembert compared to every other Australian jurisdiction, equating to 126,918kg.
Residents living in the state are going mad for the dairy product, eating about 20 times the amount than Northern Territorians and 10 times more than Tasmanians.
But cheese isn’t the only product Aussies want to snap up for Christmas.
According to the data, more customers are looking to purchase Australian ingredients, with 85 per cent saying it was important to do so.
There was also a 20 per cent increase in demand for plant-based and vegetarian products.
Prawns and oysters are also in demand, with more than 550,000kg of Australian Tiger Prawns and more than 80,000 dozen Pacific and Sydney rock oysters expected to sell.
Oyster sales have had a 50 per cent growth since May 2020.
But Victorians are picked to buy the most mince pies, with 2.9 million predicted to be purchased.
More Queenslanders seem to have a sweet tooth seeing as they’re expected to buy 434,540 litres of custard, which is the most across the country.
Those in the Sunshine State are also predicted to grab 816,000 mangoes and 170,000kg of cherries, making them second jurisdiction in the country to buy the most of those fruits.
Woolworths managing director Guy Brent said customers were looking for opportunities to celebrate, spend less time in the kitchen and more time reconnecting with family and friends.
As a result, he said trends would continue to be centred around convenience and value, without compromising quality.
“We know families and friends across Australia are expected to reunite and make the most of the holidays,” Mr Brent said.
“As a result, we’ve seen an increased demand, specifically in Victoria at Woolworths for entertaining essentials like cheese.”
