Three Hongkongers have been arrested in a police crackdown of a drugmaking facility in a Lok Ma Chau village, with a seizure of more than HK$20 million (US$2.6 million) of Ice and its raw material.
Senior Inspector Alan Ho Ho-ting of the narcotics bureau said on Thursday that officers had identified a tin hut in Shek Wu Wai that was used as a drug lab by a trafficking syndicate.
Police arrested three suspects on Tuesday – two men and one woman, aged 46 to 64 – during a raid on the facility.
Upon searching the premises, officers believed the 1,000 sq ft drug lab had been operational for about one to two months.
The facility was filled with drugmaking equipment and chemicals, including pseudoephedrine, dichloromethane, and ethyl ether believed to be used in the production of Ice, or methamphetamine.
In an adjacent vacant container, police found about 1kg (2.2lbs) of suspected ice with an estimated market value of HK$610,000.
