The US government is facing a potential shutdown after the House of Representatives rejected a hastily assembled plan ordered by President-elect Donald J. Trump to keep federal funding flowing on Thursday. Dozens of Republicans defied Trump’s demand to pair the spending plan with a two-year suspension of the federal debt limit. The vote ended with 174 in favour and 235 against, which included 38 Republicans voting against the measure and two Democrats voting in favour.
