Earlier, he had extolled the virtues of weekend work. “Very few in the bureaucracy actually work the weekend, so it’s like the opposing team just leaves the field for 2 days. Working the weekend is a superpower.!” he wrote on X. That’s 17 hours and 8 minutes of work a day, including Saturday and Sunday, as one X user noted in the comments.
How netizens reacted
Musk’s statement has sparked discussions on workplace culture, efficiency, and the changing expectations of employees in modern work environments. Even though Elon Musk, who heads six companies, was only trying to boast how hard-working he is, the internet is left divided on his self-proclaimed superpower.
While one internet user asked Musk, “Who doesn’t work weekends in 2025?” another quipped, “Trump’s golfing isn’t he?” Another netizen placed a piece of well-meaning advice for Musk, saying, “Work smarter, not harder.”
One internet user even had a touch of sarcasm in their voice, as the tweet read, “Elon do you ever take a break!”

On the other hand, many netizens appreciated Elon Musk’s practice of hard work and dedication as they said, “I don’t know how Elon Musk does it. However, extremely glad that we have his teams working to improve life on Earth and beyond,” “That explains a lot, @elonmusk! While bureaucracy takes the weekend off, innovators work around the clock to build the future. Maybe that’s why progress moves faster in the private sector than in government!”
Another internet user debated the concept of working on weekends and said, ““Also, weekends are an entirely arbitrary rest period. Better to take a break as and when needed rather than dictated by a made up calendar. Required rest differs significantly from one individual to the other,” while another netizen posed a very valid concern, “So let me get this straight you are advocating working overtime instead of 40 hour weeks. I thought we were cutting the budget & with all the new remote control bugs you put in all the gov computers are you not just going to override what they do anyway? sounds like you and the X team should do everything cause you all know better how this whole thing works.” (sic)

Elon Musk and his work ethics
Musk is known for his relentless work ethic. He’s said he works 120-hour weeks and expects his employees to work long hours, too.
When he officially took control of Twitter in October 2022, he immediately mandated 80-hour workweeks. But whether his hard-charging tech executive mentality will work in the more staid realm of government is an open question.
Musk’s hard work, loyalty and sincerity to Donald Trump have helped him earn an extremely important position in the Trump 2.0 administration. The Tesla CEO has been given the responsibility of heading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Musk reportedly wanted an office inside the Oval Office, West Wing of the White House. But luck did not favour him. Trump clarified earlier that a separate office has been set up for Tesla chief Elon Musk and his team and it is not a part of the Oval Office.

Although the extensive ties his businesses have to the government have raised questions about Musk’s potential conflicts in the role., it has been estimated that Musk’s current worth lies in figures that ordinary men might make mistakes at, while counting.
It is a whopping amount of over 400 billion in USD, which made him the richest man on earth in 2022. In the last two years, he has been holding the second rank on the list of the richest billionaires in the world.
