An attempt to smuggle a kilo of agarwood, also called the “Wood of the Gods”, valued at P750,000 was intercepted by Bureau of Customs (BoC) operatives at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Jan. 31.
Agarwood is considered the most precious forest product in the world because it is rare and is used in perfumery, traditional medicine, and luxury products. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources has warned the public against poaching the endangered agarwood also known as Lapnisan.
