A man who was crossing the railway tracks near Klang in Selangor on Jan 28 was fatally run down by a train while four others were injured in the accident.
The Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) train, carrying about 200 passengers, was damaged in the collision and was forced to come to a stop, said KTMB in a Facebook statement.
The accident took place on the rail line between Teluk Pulai and Klang in the state of Selangor, after the train left the Jalan Kastam Station at 6.39am.
Malaysian daily New Straits Times reported that the man, an Indian national, died on the spot, while the other four – who had minor injuries – were taken to a nearby hospital. All of them were believed to be crossing the tracks without authorisation.
The train operator KTMB said: “Passengers were transported to Klang Station, accompanied by auxiliary police officers and on-duty KTMB staff, to board shuttle buses provided at the station to Subang Jaya Station.”
The crash caused major delays of more than an hour and required a relief locomotive to come and tow the affected train. Train services resumed after the body was removed from the tracks.
KTMB chief operating officer Mohd Zain Mat Taha said people must remember that railway tracks are restricted zones, said The New Straits Times report. Under the Malaysian Land Public Transport Act 2010, trespassing on railway tracks can result in a fine of up to RM500 (S$153).
