California school vaccine rates fell; some students are vulnerable to measles

The chart shows a bump in vaccination rates during the 2016–2017 school year, after SB 277 went into effect in 2016. The MMR vaccination rate started at around 93% and peaked at around 97% during the 2016–2017 school year. The rate of kindergarteners with all required immunizations started at around 91% and peaked at around 96% during the 2016–17 school year. The 2023–2024 school year saw a vaccination rate of 96.2% for MMR vaccinations and 93.7% for all required immunizations statewide.
