Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu touched down in Washington on Sunday—after taking a detour of roughly 400 kilometres to avoid airspace over countries that might enforce the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) arrest warrant.
Israeli officials feared that if Netanyahu’s plane were forced into an emergency landing, nations like Ireland, Iceland, and the Netherlands could move to detain him, Haaretz reported.
The ICC warrant is linked to Israel’s war on Gaza and allegations of war crimes.
