Synopsis: Increasing moisture levels combined with a weak disturbance moving west over the forecast area brought some early morning showers off of the coast. These showers will spread inland to the Coastal Plains by Saturday night and Sunday morning. A trough moving in from the east (east to west) will continue to bring in more moisture as well as increased rain chances for Sunday over South Texas, and then along the Rio Grande Plains Sunday night. That moisture along with the sun heating up the atmosphere will also increase rain chances on Sunday here in South Texas. Increased clouds and rain will help to decrease temperature highs as we stay in the upper 80’s and lower 90’s for much of the week. The trough discussed earlier, will bring an influx of moisture in from the east and into South Texas pretty much through the work week. The first half of the week could experience heavy rain fall as early as Sunday night and Monday.
Tropics: The details have to be ironed out, but an approaching tropical wave could affect the amount of rainfall South Texas receives. Should the tropical wave move further south, then rainfall would be less than what is currently being forecast. If the movement tracks further north, there could be an increase in total rainfall.
We should have a better understanding once (if) the tropical wave turns from a tropical disturbance/wave into a tropical depression. At this time, there is a 70 percent chance for development in the next 48-hours and an 80 percent chance of development in the next 5-days. The forecast could change quickly should this system develop into a tropical cyclone, so we will definitely need to continue to monitor this area in the coming days.
